H2tAlent

H2tALENT is a flagship European Green Hydrogen Valley initiative developing a fully integrated hydrogen ecosystem in the Alentejo region of Portugal. The project spans the entire hydrogen value chain, from large-scale renewable hydrogen production to distribution and end-use, with a strong focus on industrial decarbonisation, sustainable mobility (including heavy-duty transport and public fleets), and energy applications in buildings. H2tALENT aims to deploy up to 2.1 GW of electrolysis capacity and enable the production of significant volumes of renewable hydrogen, positioning Alentejo — and the Port of Sines — as a strategic hub for hydrogen deployment, logistics, and future export. In parallel, the project addresses digitalisation, skills development, and social acceptance to ensure long-term impact and replicability.
Professor Ladewig, from the University of Luxembourg, contributes to H2tALENT through systematic benchmarking of hydrogen valley projects across Europe. His work focuses on comparing governance models, business cases, regulatory frameworks, and technical solutions, and exploiting lessons learned from other hydrogen initiatives to strengthen H2tALENT’s strategic design, scalability, and contribution to a coherent European hydrogen ecosystem.
